For just about as long as photography has existed, family photography has too. Future generations may never meet you face to face, but a photograph, an immortal moment in time, can communicate with them hundreds of years after it is captured. Photographs are memories of a time that will pass, though in some ways, will never pass because as long as the memory of that time is bound in a picture, no amount of time can take it away. Family photography includes branches of the family from all over the family tree and can include grandparents, aunts and uncles, and even distant cousins.  

Traditional & Lifestyle Photography
Traditional family photos have gone from American Gothic to American awesome, as the way that photographers frame our subjects shifts from simply capturing an image of a family to capturing an image of the love, warmth, and companionship shared by a family. Similarly, lifestyle photography captures a family’s connection, but in a space that is loved by the whole family. We have taken some of our best shots, not in the studio or a perfectly lit room, but on golf courses and motocross tracks – places that truly embody the shared passions of the family. 

Whimsical/ Fantasy Photography
Nobody puts baby in a corner, but everybody should put baby (and the rest of the family) in a fun, fantastical setting that speaks to the daydreamer within all of us. Fantasy photography makes use of props and advanced editing to create an image, or a series of images, that place you and your family in a series of weird, wonderful, and whimsical places that would not otherwise be possible. This fun subgenre of photography allows families who are “not the norm” to express themselves in ways that break the “traditional” family photo mold!

Candid Family Photography
Candid family photography is one of our personal favorites here at Billings Custom Photography. Candid Family Photography flips traditional family photography on its head by removing the poses and typical Sunday best and replacing them with a “day in the life of” series of shots that truly capture the essence of your family. Nothing spreads the Christmas cheer like a heartfelt message accompanied by a candid shot of the entire family enjoying the holiday cheer.
